Why do obese girls get away with citing Renaissance Art or Marilyn Monroe to justify their lifestyles?
Everybody has the right to feel beautiful, inside and out.
The other day in class, a girl we will politely called "plus sized" starting going on about how backward our society was and how her body type was considered more attractive for all of history, and the fashion industry was conspiring to make her feel bad about herself, etc.
Among the nonsense she (and many obese girls) used to justify this argument was that Marilyn Monroe wore a size 16. Marilyn Monroe, at 5 foot 5, weight about 120 at the height of her careers, and 140 at her heaviest.
Renaissance Art is a more legitimate argument, but if you look at "The Birth of Venus", for example, the height to width proportion of the goddess suggests, assuming she was average American height of 5 foot 4, about a size 12. Even John Paul Ruben's models seems to look nothing like many of the obese girls that insist on being called "Rubenesque".
I'm not saying that we should starve ourselves, maybe just stop fooling ourselves.
Your "opinion" is the reason why American society is the way it is. Nothing will ever change with that pace.
