Do most houses in San Francisco have bad sound insulation?
My family house in SF has poor insulation. You can hear the neighbor flick on the television and at some cases can even hear the second neighbor away from our house do his backyard chores. My parent's rent out the Garage Room and I can hear the people down there open and close their doors and their annoying voices. Is it just my house or are most houses in San Francisco like this?
In my personal experience I have lived in at least 5 different houses in San Francisco and I have been in countless other friends and acquaintances homes. It really varies for the most part. Some houses are multi-story and the top levels can be quiet if the house is detached.
Most houses in San Francisco are quite old so the sound proofing and quality of materials and workmanship is not the most up-to-date. Many homes lack the ground plug (3rd hole in the outlet), much less cat5 wiring for internet and so forth. Also, most homes in San Francisco are built close together so you can and will hear your neighbors most of the time.
I would buy earplugs to alleviate the problem or get a radio and turn the volume up to drown out the noise.
