What is the best way to store an old car?
what are some tips to storing an old car for long periods of time. what is the best way to keep it most pristine? how often should it be started?
keep in mind people i am a top contributor in this category and i don't need minor details on cars, you can tell me straight up.
disconnecting the battery is the best idea so far i haven't thought of already. stuff like that is what im looking for.
Few tips off the top of my head:
Fill gas tank, then add fuel stabilizer. Having air in the gas tank allows condensation to form, and we know you don't want water in your tank.
Wash it well and have a decent coat of wax on it so it is easier to clean when you get it out.
If you put it up on blocks, put them on the suspension, not the frame, otherwise your springs will stretch over time. Instead move the car around every couple of months to keep it from getting flat spots on the tires. Also check the air pressure, since it will lose pressure over time.
If you have the option, park it on a dirt ground. Having concrete underneath traps moisture and causes the underside of your vehicle to rust. If you have to put it on concrete put cardboard and blankets underneath the whole car to absorb as much moisture as possible.
Disconnecting the battery will make it last longer when it is stored. Also be sure to have it full (up to marker lines) of battery acid, otherwise the plates can corrode.
Also change all the fluids on it like transmission, engine oil, coolant and differential oil to be sure you don't have junk sitting in it causing build up.
