Anybody ever stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel?
I have not stayed at a Manila hotel outside of the Makati or Ortigas area since I was a child and spent a fews weeks living with the "erpat/ermat" at the old Sheraton and Silahis International (that name now cracks me up) hotels when I was a child back in the 80's.
Last time I looked from the outside it seems like a well run place. Is it? It's nearer the US Embassy so that's why I'm interested.
I like the Pan Pacific because it's clean and minimalistic in its accommodations. Admittedly, it can get a little difficult to get your bearings, because a good chunk of the first floor isn't quite the Pan-Pacific's but a food court of some sort, but once you get the hang of it, it's lovely. The swimming pool is tiny but open-air, and the service is quite good. I think its main clientele are visiting Asians, and you know how we're always looking for quality at the best possible rate, so you're getting a good bang for your buck.
On a side note, if you're looking to stay at a hotel near the US Embassy, the logical hotel would be the Bayview Hotel. It certainly doesn't come remotely close to the Pan Pacific in terms of accommodations and facilities, but it's literally across the street from the US Embassy so location-wise, it's a great choice. Another personal Roxas Boulevard favorite of mine is the Diamond Hotel - across the Pan Pacific, I think. My wife and I have stayed there and enjoyed the view and the breakfast buffets. Plus, the rooms are spacious and well-maintained. Free fruit basket, ha ha. Official website is http://diamondhotel.com.
You can also try the Manila Pavilion. It's quite well-known for being a good Manila hotel, plus it has an in-house casino, it's right beside a hospital (you never know!), and their facilities - gym, pool, casino - are topnotch. Official website is http://manilapavilion.com.ph.
