Promotional items can help trigger your memories and give far greater recall of events that you have taken part in. There are experiences that we like to remember because they bring back fond memories and actually make us feel good. I encourage you to think about that good holiday, winning a final, your wedding day or whatever memory gives you a good feeling. Just to randomly try and think about these events can be difficult but as I look through my cupboard I find a number of items that help to trigger my memory.
The first item that I find is a promotional mug from Sunstrand Aerospace, now part of Hamilton Sunstrand. This was given me some 15 years earlier when I was working with them on a number of projects and needed to spend time in America with them. The sight of the promotional mug immediately triggered a memory of the baseball batting nets. A machine propelled the balls at me at slow, medium, fast or very fast speed and I had had my warm up and the machine was turned to very fast, I swung at the baseball and it sailed off into the distance. The feeling was good then and the memory is good now.
Then I found a promotional glass that I had bought from the Great Lakes brewery in Cleveland, Ohio also about 15 years earlier and the memory of the tray of taster beers in small glasses that we ordered so that we could try all the beers and see which ones we liked. This triggered the memory of the friend that I had made in Cleveland and how he had invited me to their home to watch baseball with his family and enjoy an evening meal.
So what had happened here? The promotional mug and glass triggered my memory which is why promotional items are so effective and so long lasting. If you give them as gifts and ask the recipients to remember certain things when they see them that's exactly what happens.
